Beneficiaries About 40 under-privileged students of the Ashram
Project Status Project was live between April 2019 and December 2023. Has since been closed.
Project Size Large

This has been one of our longest running and ongoing project. It was conceptualized based on discussions within and outside of the Foundation in context of 75 year celebration of Rahara Mission. The Alumni association was working on upgrading the computer lab in the school. As we discussed further, we found that this effort can be complimented by setting up a dedicated lab for the Ashram students. The project scope was discussed at length with Swami Muralidharananda Maharaj, the head master of the high school and also in-charge of the Ashram students. He was kind enough to allocate space for the lab, and taking care of the civil and electrical work needed. We had a few meetings with the Ashram students, and their enthusiasm was really contagious.

This was a big-budget project. Thankfully, through personal and professional contact of some of our friends, the initial expenses needed in setting up the lab could be arranged. The lab was set up with ten desktop computer stations, table and chair. We engaged a young and enthusiastic computer teacher from the immediate neighborhood, and biweekly computer and spoken English classes got started. The classes have been going on ever since, and have been received well. We had a few career guidance sessions also arranged.

Members of the Foundation immediately swung into action. Response from members was quick, and spontaneous. Over the next several weeks, the Foundation would be actively involved in various relief operations, some of which are listed below.

This has been a large project, and a lot of members have contributed, or continue to contribute, towards this project on various ways. A few names that would stand out include Abhirup Mukherjee, Partha Chakraborty, Manabendra Roy, Arindam Dhar, Pradip Adhikari, Sangram Sinha, Pijush Kanti Das, Bhaskar Roy, Debarya Majumdar among others for their role in conceptualizing the project, engaging stakeholders, and working on fund raising.

Project Closure

Around March 2020, the school was closed due to COVID-19 pandemic. Ashram students went home, and classes had to be stopped. Classes resumed around November 2022. Around mid-2023, based on preference of the school administration, a decision was taken to terminate the classes. The computer lab was handed over to the school authorities who would take decision regarding next steps.
