OUR STORY

Rahara Eighty Eight Degree East Foundation is a not-for-profit organization run by a group of childhood friends who studied together in Rahara Ramakrishna Mission Boys’ Home (informally referred to as Rahara Mission), and matriculated in 1988. Now well-established in their personal and professional lives, the “Friends Forever” came together a few years back, and realized that they don’t just have shared memories of some of the best days in their lives, but also share a strong feeling that together, we can, and should, give back to the  society in a structured manner. This eventually led to the formation of the Foundation, which was later registered under the West Bengal Societies Registration Act, 1961 (Registration number S0006348, 2019-20). The Foundation is registered under 12AA and 80G.

The Foundation primarily supports education and health related initiatives among under-privileged and marginalized people. We also support various charitable initiatives, including relief during natural disasters. Funds are raised by members, their family members and friends/acquaintances. Foundation activities are coordinated by a duly elected Executive Committee. While maintaining a largely informal work environment, the Foundation puts a lot of focus on transparency, governance and compliance related aspects. We work closely with various partner organizations, government agencies and like minded people. We are grateful that we have started achieving some of our objectives through collective effort of our members, along with a lot of support, both monetary and non-monetary, from our close acquaintances and well wishers.

EDUCATION

Our Education initiatives are largely centered around ‘Uttoron’, ‘Galpo-gachha’ and more recently, ‘Sopan-Uttoron’ partnership projects.  As of April 2025, three schools are running under these initiatives. We also support other beneficiaries (schools & students) who reach out to us for miscellaneous support related to education.

HEALTH

Health camps are conducted for beneficiaries from time to time. Foundation also helps in raising funds to meet medical emergencies of beneficiaries. During COVID19 pandemic, our physician members played a key role in creating awareness and providing medical assistance of a large number of people. We are indebted to our physician members for their whole hearted support in all these activities.

CHARITY & RELIEF

Foundation takes up fund raising and supplying relief materials to remote villages impacted by natural disaster. We partner with other organizations to help run relief camps during pandemic.
